Rockin' Chick List...

The first Rockin' Chick on my list is a sensational singer-songwriter named Dorie Colangelo. I was introduced to her by a mutual friend of ours. I listened to a few of her very impressive tracks on her myspace page before I heard her live and I was already convinced that I would love her. That evening, I got to hear her play in an extremely intimate fashion at the Rockwood Music Hall in the Lower East Side. She was spectacular. After chatting with her sister (who I had mistaken for being Dorie herself), I was able to really lose myself in the subtleties of her heartfelt lyrics and beautiful melodies. Dorie's sound was a delightful blending of Norah Jones, Lucinda Williams, and Melissa Etheridge. I kept imagining her leading us musically back into the nineties when female singer-songwriters like Sarah Mclachlan, Alanis Morissette, k.d. lang, and Sheryl Crow were at the top of their game. After the set, I got to speak with Dorie briefly and was given a parting gift of her album for free. She was so sweet and her album has been even sweeter to listen to. I've found new favorites with her tracks, "She's Golden" and "The Lonely One" which are musical perfection. I can't wait to see how her music career unfolds in the future.
